WindmillsWind Workshop

Nearly 200 Reno County residents met for the Community Wind workshop to explore wind energy with Larry Flowers of the National Renewable Energy Lab.

According to Flowers, the "good news for Reno County is that it has the wind and proximity to transmission lines, both necessary ingredients for a wind farm."

Residents were able to delve deeper into the economics of wind, utility and community wind as well as the Wind for Schools project during break-out sessions.

Following the panelists question and answer session, Jim Davis, RCGC Chair asked for a show of hands to move forward with exploration of Reno County's wind energy potential. The vote was nearly unanimous to continue.

The next logical step for Reno County is the formation of a wind committee. Let us know by September 1st if you are interested in serving. The wind committee will gather information from the community about their interests and concerns and will work with a consultant to formulate a plan for Reno County.

There are two opportunities to learn more about wind technology.
